Soil Born Farms

It's winter and I'm thinking of bright sunny summer days filled with sweet cherry tomatoes. Soil Born Farms was kind enough to host a day for a class that I'm in and I'm missing all that wonderful urban farm sun and warmth. If you get a chance to go out there on one of their open farm days you should go! They are doing wonderful things.

Bridal Shower Flowers

I helped a friend of mine with some flowers for her sister-in-law's bridal shower. She was going for a culinary kitchen theme so the main arrangements were cute colanders. She had a pretty specific color theme so I just helped her pick out the flowers and then arrange them. Turned out well, I think.

Macro Flowers

I got a fancy new Olloclip for my anniversary with a really cool set of 10x and 15x macro lens. Of course, what did I do? Take amazingly close photos of flowers. But who can blame me?

Half-life Party Flowers

Ben and I celebrated 20 years of unwedded bliss with a big old party at the Citizen Hotel. Our invite colors were dark grey and yellow. I made one large arrangement for the welcome table and a few little ones for the cocktail tables. Nothing too fancy, but gorgeous nonetheless.

Happy Little Porch

I've been neglecting all my plants but especially my porch. I repotted a bunch of plants back in July but that is about all I've done. So I finally trimmed, pruned, and cleaned everything up. They are all looking a little better.
After - clean & pruned.

Before - messing & overgrown.

Last Orchid Bloom

My last orchid bloom dropped on September 1st. It started blooming in early April or maybe even March so this year's run was pretty fantastic. Good job little bloomer. Good job.

Happy Little Succulents

My happy little succulents from the Succulent Show are doing so well! They have grown in and some are flowering. Overall, so happy with my little plants.

Root Bound & Repotting

I admittedly take too long to repot my plants and they suffer for it. But when I come home with a small selection of new succulents I need to start the domino effect of moving plants into bigger pots to make room in smaller pots for the new plants. It's quite the chore and looks worse before it looks better.

My geraniums were practically cheering in their new pots!

My Ledebouria socialis was super crowded.

The new homes.

More new homes.

Cactus & Succulent Show

Each May, the Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society put on a plant show and sale in McKinley park. It is amazing. Like really, really amazing. We came in after a run on the Sunday of the two-day show. They are so well set up, you just pick what you want and pay all in one place and each grower gets their money. Best plant show idea I have ever come across!

And damn, the plants! I couldn't take enough photos. Here are just a few of the amazing selections. I will be going to each and every one of these in years to come.

Corn Plant Found a Home

This plant started off as a 4" pot years, and years ago and I brought it to my office. It started off on a shelf, then had to move to a lower shelf because of how tall it was. Then is was touching the ceiling and I had to cry uncle and take it home. This huge plant was in a little pot and the only place I could find was the air duct. Well, it started to fall over since the pot was so small so after repotting it, I found a new space for it and it is so happy!

Score one for treating your plants well.

When Friends Move to Austin

Two of my planty friends moved to Austin within the last year and they gifted me with some of their plants. I just offer a good home and try to hide them from Ben. That didn't work very well, but they are doing great on my porch and I love the new additions.

Air Plant Octopus

Sometimes you see an idea in an expensive nursery and realize you have all those pieces and parts at home. One little wire hook and some twine and a sea urchin shell and an air plant. Now I have a hanging sea creature. It's pretty rad.
